Remove Watermark on Non-Art Image

Here are the steps to remove a watermark on an image in the Images/Non-Art Images folder such as your About the Artist photo or a photo of someone else's art on your Blog.

STEP 1

  • login to FASO account Control Panel
  • click Images icon (upper row)
  • double-click on image thumbnail to edit
  • for Exclude From Watermarking, select Yes
  • click Save Changes

STEP 2

  • click Artwork icon (upper row)
  • click Edit the Works Display
  • click Add Watermarks, Copyright Notices, and Attributions to your images
  • click Save Changes (even though no changes were made)

If the 2 steps above do not immediately reflect on your site, change the CDN number:

  • from FASO control panel:
  • click gear icon (top right)
  • click Account Settings
  • click Other Advanced Odds and Ends
  • for CDN Version (bottom left of screen) change the number*
  • click Save Changes

*The value/number in the CDN version field doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is that a new value is used. We usually base the value on the date but that's not a requirement.

Behind the Scenes:
CDN stands for Content Delivery Network. A content delivery network makes copies of the content (in this case images) and saves them on servers all around the country (and world). These are very fast servers; they serve the images with incredible speed.

Since the CDN makes a copy of the image, it will not have the latest copy when the content changes (like removing a watermark).

Changing the CDN Version (number) adds an extra url parameter to images to bust the old images cached by the CDN. In most cases, changing the CDN version will cause all images on the site to reload fresh. This is useful in cases where watermarks or replaced images are not updating properly.
