What To Do If Your Domain Expires

Domain expired.

It's a tricky slope letting a domain expire and then deciding that you want to keep it.

When a domain expires, that's not the end of the story. Domains do not expire when they say they do.

If the owner of a domain does not renew by the expiration date of the domain, the domain goes into 'Expired' status. Your domain will not pull up your website!

After 20 - 40 days, the domain’s status changes to 'REDEMPTION-PERIOD'. During this phase, all WhoIs information begins disappearing, and more importantly, it now costs the owner an additional fee to re-activate and re-register the domain.

The domain name will now cost $80-$150 or maybe more to renew at this point due to the manual addition to the registry by the registrar and the renewal fees. It can take several days for the domain to become active again once the fees are paid.

After the Redemption Period, the status changes to 'PENDING-DELETE'. This indicates that the domain expired and is no longer available for redemption. The registry is about to erase it. A domain name remains in this status for five days before it is deleted.

The total process can take anywhere from 50 days to 75+ days.
The time frame is up to the domain registry.

Toward the end of the process, the domain goes to auction where a domain broker can pick it up before the public can so you run the risk of losing the domain all together. These brokers usually charge an exorbitant amount of money to get your domain back.

If your domain expired and you want to keep the domain, you have the following 2 options.

Option 1 ~ Renew Domain before expiration completes.

NOTE:
If we are your domain registrar, let us know you wish to renew the expired domain. We will renew it as long as it is still in the redemption period. The renewal will cost between $100 -$150. This is not our fee but the fee our domain registrar charges to redeem the domain.

Sorry, expired domains cannot be transferred!
A domain has to be in ACTIVE standing in order to be transferred.

Option 2 ~ Let Domain Expire and repurchase (if possible).

NOTE: If you are a current FASO artist and registered your domain with us, we renew your domain on a yearly basis. No need to give this a 2nd thought. We take care of the renewal for you!
