A Checklist for Uploading Images and Solving Image Upload Issues

1. Make Sure Your Image is a JPG or PNG

Just renaming an image does not automatically make it a .JPG. If your images are not .JPG files already, you need to open them in a photo editing program and re-save them as .jpg.

FASO originally chose JPG (.jpg / .jpeg) as the format for image uploads because they're specifically designed for displaying artwork and photographs.

NOTE: You can upload .png images.
Please see this FAQ for more info about png files:
JPG Images Recommended over PNG

2. Make Sure your JPG is in the Correct Format, the Correct Color Mode

  • JPGs must be in RGB mode (this is usually the default unless you save for print usage).
  • JPGs must also be set to the 8-bits per channel mode. (Under Image/Mode in Photoshop). Again, 8-bits per channel is normally the default.
  • For Photoshop users who have images with an Embedded Profile, it is important to use sRGB mode.
For more info, see this FAQ: Images Look Bad, Washed-Out, De-Saturated ~ Save as sRGB.

3. Make sure the .JPG File Name Contains Only Letters and Numbers

If your file name includes non-letters and non-numbers such as '$"/*# etc., you may need to remove these characters, rename the file, and save the new file.

4. Make Sure Your Images are Not too Big

Depending on the speed of your internet connection, your uploads may be 'timing out' if your images are too large.

  • The minimum image size for image uploads is 1200 pixels (px) in the largest dimension.
  • We recommend that you upload images that are 4000 pixels in the largest dimension. This size accommodates all template choices.
  • The maximum file size for image uploads is 35MB.

6. Try a Different Browser

Despite how excellent browsers have gotten, website consumption is such a complex matter these days that every one of them will encounter particular sites that won't function correctly. It’s always a good idea to have more than one browser installed. They're all free, fast, and compliant, but each of today's Web browser choices has its own particular capabilities and features that may best suit your needs at any given time.

When using your FASO Control Panel or editing your FASO site, please use one of these recommended web browsers. These browsers tend to work much better on modern sites.

7. Settings

Be sure all of your security and privacy settings on your browser are set to medium or default.

8. Image Not in Use

Be sure the image is not in use or locked.

If the image is open in another program (like Photoshop) or if the computer thinks it is open - sometimes it will be 'locked' and you won't be able to upload it. Make sure it is not open in another program.

9. If you are Using Internet Explorer

It's likely a trusted sites issue. Make sure both cloud.fineartstudioonline.com and data.fineartstudioonline.com are in your trusted sites. Using a different browser works too.

10. Restart / Reboot

This is is always a good thing to try with any persistent error.

For more info see FAQ:
Clear Cache & Cookies/ Refresh Browser/ Reboot

11. If You Still get an Error Message

If you've tried all of the above and still get an error message during the upload process, especially if it happens more than once, please email ONE of the images that you were attempting to upload, as an attachment to support@faso.com. We will attempt to upload it and see if we can duplicate the problem.
